What do ya do when it’s 9000 degrees outside, your babe is stir crazy, and there’s no swimming pool in sight?

Bath tub fun! I LOVED having colored bath water when I was little. And yesterday my little stinker was tired (but wouldn’t sleep of course), missing her daddy who had been gone all week, and was craving something fun, so I slipped her in her swim suit, dropped a few blue drops of food coloring in the water, and watched her frown turn right upside down and start having a blast! She loves water, and I’ve never really captured her at bathtime so I grabbed the camera. Here’s my little mermaid in her blue bath with her broken star sunnies that she just had to have in there with her. 😉

This summer is one for the records. I’m packing as many family and baby sessions into my schedule that I can handle. 17 more sessions from now til end of July. Lots of indoor sessions coming up but I just had to take a look back at these outdoor sessions at my “cactus spot”. The cactus are beautiful – always – but we shot right when the wildflowers were rampant as well. I love all the color we got in these sessions – the greens, the pretty warm tones from the flowers and the gorgeous lighting. Already looking forward to next year’s shoots here! Here are a few gorgeous families that hung out in the field with me recently. 🙂

This was….gosh. I can’t even put it into words. A dream come true? Pretty much!

Meet the Wills Family. They’re who I want to be when I grow up. Except that I’m already grown up. But still, #goals. Their style is droolworthy. Their house is amazing. And they are serious DIY’ers which makes them even more impressive. And slightly intimidating, if I’m being real. I actually texted a friend before this shoot and told her I was worried I wasn’t cool enough for this job. Heh! It turns out they’re suuuuper nice, though…and I don’t even think they cared that I’m not cool. 😉

Anyhow,  I’ve been on a quest to be more real in my photography. To direct rather than pose, and even then, to direct very loosely, so I’m not trying to create moments that aren’t real and aren’t natural. You can’t fake connection….or an amazing laugh…or the faces kids make when they’re making cookies at home…but you can encourage them. 🙂 So I just kind of set up the scene and stand back and watch it unfold. With a few little tricks up my sleeve to get everyone relaxed and having a good time.

Saturday mornings. REAL Saturday mornings where I’m just a fly on the wall. This is how that looks:

Sometimes you just can’t decide between two things, and sometimes you shouldn’t have to. Like when you go to the movies and you have to pick between popcorn and candy. Wait – no you don’t! Get both! Or when you go shopping and you’re faced with the decision of getting a new purse or a new pair of shoes – but what’s one without the other?? They compliment each other so well – you should just get both! Cookies or ice cream? Both! Have you heard of an ice cream sandwich? Duh! Well, this is my ice cream sandwich…all the sweetness of family photos with an adorable cake smash in between. No choosing. Both. Isn’t that glorious??

Now you can check two things off your Good Mommy List: one year milestone photos – check! updated family photos – check! bonus points if this one year old is your second or third child because we all know we’re big slackers when it comes to…well, any child after the first. 😉

I have a lot of client’s that come to me for one year old photos but they realize they also need updated family photos, and I love telling them they don’t have to choose! Look at all the precious photos we squeezed in to this little studio session. Look. Smile. Envision your own family in my studio…and then email me to schedule your next shoot at jodie@reveriephotoco.com

Me and my ideas.

I tell you…I have a zillion of them. Some are okay. Some are real stinkers. And then some are soooo good. I’m filing this one under FAVORITE!

Bluebonnet Mini Sessions are so popular in Texas, but I’ve never heard of cactus mini sessions. Or cactus sessions at all. But I love me some cactus, blooming or not…they’re just beautiful and provide some great texture and a different kind of green backdrop to photographs.

So I had this idea one day around lunch time and within four hours, I had gone to the store, picked out some flowers, handmade a floral crown, threw Hattie in this dress that I’d be dying to photograph her in, and texted my hubby to tell him to meet me at the cactus place to do a shoot while he was driving home from work. And because he’s the best husband ever, he did. He’s some kind of wonderful. This guy puts up with LOTS of crazy ideas from me, and he’s always supportive, no matter what.

Anyhow – the photos turned out so cute I just knew I had to open up some Cactus Minis. I had no idea if anyone would go for them, but they instantly got a lot of interest. Tonight is the night these minis start and I’m already so excited to see how all the photos turn out! But for now – here’s my little one, who happens to LOVE wearing floral crowns (and that’s the ONLY thing she will keep on her head!). She did pretty well…especially considering she wants nothing to do with my camera right now (and I had sworn off trying to photograph her again until she’s three…but, well…the cactus made me do it. And I’m so glad it did.).
