Relax, I say. Get into it. Some people look at me like I’m crazy when I tell them I like a good dose of chaos in my sessions. That I WANT their kids to bounce around like kids do. If you, like me, grew up in the age of studio shoots + cheesy backgrounds + awkward poses and fake smiles for the camera….then this can feel unnatural. I get it. Even though it is exactly opposite. It is TOTALLY natural. I love it when people get that and are like….OH…GAME ON.
Those sessions, hands down, go the best.
This one started out normal. I walked up…dad answered the door, mom was upstairs getting ready, we made small talk. Then baby brother and mom came in and said hello and instantly, he was all smiles and wanted to be friends.
When big sister came in, I decided we’d start by letting her show me her room. We went upstairs and I fell in love with how bright and cheery her room was! And it didn’t take long for the silliness to start. These parents went all in. Silliness, tickling, getting down on their level and just playing. And it only got more fun from there.
In mom and dad’s room, we turned the silliness up, up, up.
This baby’s eyes. GAH. SO CUTE.
This was a game-on moment. Dad was like – STAND BACK…..
Enough fun upstairs…it was time to go downstairs for the mess-making part of the session. But first, we had to stop and let little guy play with all the shoes, one of his favorite things to do.
I know. It’s probably rude to take pictures of people when they’re crying, BUT THAT POUT!!! And check out the sad look on the little puppy dog’s face as he goes over to check on the baby to make sure he’s okay. Uh…how could I possibly put my camera down at that moment? I couldn’t. Call me rude…but that image is priceless. One day I promise you they’ll want to remember what that adorable little pout looked like….and now they have this photo so they can always remember.
If you know me at all, you know I love a good cake smash. It was little man’s birthday and his sister’s birthday was just a couple days before, so I swung by Leah’s Sweet Treats, picked up a couple sprinkle cakes, and the whole family joined in. Because they’re awesome. 🙂
That dad face tho! This might be one of my favorite family portraits ever.
So there ya have it. One adorable little family documented at home. Hope you enjoyed looking at these! It was a blast. ALL of my At Home sessions have been so much fun. I’m looking forward to many, many more!
XOXO-
